Announcing MiAL’s Selection Panel – Natalie Brett
Last, but certainly not least, our final panel member selecting the Made in Arts London Spring/Summer 2015 collection will be Natalie Brett.
Natalie is Pro Vice-Chancellor and Head of London College of Communication since January 2013.
She was previously Dean of Camberwell College of Arts and has taught at Chelsea College of Art and has over 20 years’ experience within the Higher Education sector at both a national and international level. She has led the development of new approaches to learning and teaching within the University and has substantial experience in supporting widening participation activities and support for disabled staff and students.
Prior to joining UAL, Natalie lectured at institutions including London Business School, and she worked as a graphic designer and illustrator for clients such as Penguin, Pentagram, Saatchi & Saatchi, Marks & Spencer and the Guardian.
Natalie has a degree in Visual Communications and has worked as an illustrator and graphic designer for over 20 years both in the UK and the USA. Clients include Penguin, Pentagram, Saatchi & Saatchi, The Guardian, New York Times, Bloomsbury Press, Random House US, Conran, Heals, Radio Times, Macmillan, Vogue US, GQ US, Blueprint and Marks & Spencer.
Natalie has also contributed to a variety of art and design education related topics for the BBC, The Observer, The Guardian and Sky as well as major broadcast channels in India, China and the Philippines. She worked with the BBC as a consultant and presenter on BBC 2’s Art School developing a two week curriculum for John Humphreys, Ulrika Johnson, Keith Allen, Clarissa Dickson Wright and Nihal.
Since being at the University, Natalie has led and contributed to a number of projects that have impacted on enhancing the experience of students and engaging with external partners and participants. These have included Peckham Space and working with Tate Britain, The British Library and the South London Gallery in supporting the development of their education programmes. She has led the initiative on developing a postgraduate community across UAL through a series of programmed events and activities.
Natalie has curated exhibitions across UAL for Future Map and the London Design Festival and supported many of the UAL Widening Participation initiatives with schools in Southwark including Saturday Class, Summer School and the Big Draw.
Natalie is a Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts (FRSA).
