MiAL X Metro Imaging Mentorship Winner Announced

We are delighted to announce that the winner of the MiAL X Metro Imaging Mentorship 2017 is Wimbledon College of Art, MFA Fine Art student Frederic Andersonfrederic_anderson_profile_photo

Made in Arts London and Metro Imaging teamed up two years ago to create a bespoke mentorship for one final year student of University of Arts London. The aim was to provide support and advice specifically tailored to the student and their practice in their crucial final months of study and the first tentative months once graduated.

Frederic, already a MiAL Artist, submitted a new series of work to the panel, which sees a beautiful evolution of his current practice, as well as introducing new aspects of his work, previously not represented by MiAL.

Euphonium sees a development in Frederic’s blind drawing methods, as he draws an object twice using charcoal, then painstakingly traces the lines in oil paint to add new layers of depth. The result is the conveyance of an object in conflict with its own appearance, leaving room for the viewer to observe their own associations.

6e2a2430-raSitting alongside Euphonium  is The dissolution of Studios, which also encourages an abstract way of viewing. Capturing the temporal transience of the art studio through drawing, this series is also accompanied by an exploration into photography with a photo book.

Frederic aims through the mentorship to be able to draw these concurrent areas of his practice closer together and build on their interconnections. He will now be supported by:

  • A twelve month bespoke mentorship
  • £1000 credit to be used against Metro Imaging in-house services
  • One to one mentorship including PPD; technical advice; networking opportunities and industry insight
  • In-lab experience with various production departments
  • Portfolio and practice reviews and advice
  • Curatorial advice in shaping their final degree show
  • Opportunities to be involved in Metro instigated exhibitions and lectures
  • Introductions to MI partners such as BSAA; Shutter Hub and Life Framer

*As the competition was so strong for this opportunity a select number of shortlisted applicants were also offered an additional PPD day by Metro Imaging!*

We are very excited about seeing what this years opportunities bring for Frederic, both in the build up to his degree show and in what lies beyond! Please keep an eye on the MiAL Twitter, Facebook and Instagram feeds for updates on Frederic’s progress throughout the mentorship as well as other opportunities for UAL students and recent graduates from Made in Arts London.
