MiAL 2017 Selection Panel: Introducing Michael Richards
Open to all University of the Arts London students and recent graduates, MiAL represents a fantastically diverse range of work including fine art, illustration, photography, fashion, homeware, video, performance, sculpture, installation and more! With each new collection we welcome around 40 new artists to join MiAL, with work launched online as part of the new collection.
Each collection is chosen by a panel of industry experts. The panel look through all submissions and provide feedback to everyone, which means that even if work isn’t selected applicants receive helpful guidance as to why.
The panel changes with each collection, which leads us nicely into our exciting news that the third panel member for the MiAL 2017 Collection is Michael Richards!
Michael has been successfully involved in the retail industry for many years, initially learning his craft on the High Street and more recently specialising within the Heritage Sector, working with major iconic institutions such as The Imperial War Museum and The Barbican. Currently working as freelance consultant, his recent focus has been on supporting museums, galleries and performing arts centers, helping them develop and grow their retail offers in today’s challenging marketplace. Recent projects have included work for The Garden Museum, The Peoples History Museum (Manchester) and Derby Museum & Art Galleries
Michael is a strong supporter of new design talent and he is always keen to give young artists and designers encouragement and advice as they enter the very competitive commercial sector. He has curated several art and craft fairs and is an advocate for the best in contemporary hand crafted design.
Michael is a keen artist in his own right and many of his works have been selected as part of The Discerning Eye Exhibitions at the Mall Gallery London
