MiAL Takes Over Canopy Market!

Nearly two years after the first Canopy Market, MiAL are returning for another complete take over of the now weekly event in Kings Cross!

This Canopy Market will be incredibly special, as it see’s not only the return of some of our most successful MiAL Alumni, but also is a sneaky introduction to some of the members of our new 2018 collection! Which means that all the work on sale will only be available from the market and not our website! (As if you needed an excuse to come down…!)

Canopy Market, Wesrt Handyside Canopy, King's Cross

Canopy Market is run by Real Food Festivals, bringing together some of the country’s top-quality artisan food producers and street food every weekend to West Handyside Canopy.

We will also be hosting a range of events and workshops, starting on Friday 24th August with out new partners Be Smart About Art who will be hosting their monthly networking event at Canopy Market with us from 6.30pm!

Booking for this event is essential (but free if you are a Be Smart About Art member!) and can be made through this link

On Saturday 25th August we will see the return of Belmin Pilevneli, a former MiAL Artist! Born in Istanbul and a graduate of London College of Communication, Belmin’s work focuses on text and poetry, predominantly written by herself in order to reflect intimacy, love and purity.

Hannah Fletcher

MiAL Artist Hannah Fletcher will host a Cyantype workshop at 1pm on Sunday 26th August

Current MiAL Artist Hannah Fletcher will be hosting two analogue photography workshops on Sunday 26th August! Hannah’s practice focuses on camera-less photography techniques, and incorporates a fascination for organic materials and a natural environment. Some of you may recognise her work from our stand at Affordable Art Fair 2018

Hannah’s first workshop starts at 1pm and looks at cyanotype, one of the earliest photographic techniques and famous for its prussian blue tones! Tickets for Cyanotype Workshop are available here

If a more monochrome colour palette is more your thing join Hannah at 2pm instead, where she will take you through the process of Lumen printing, a cameraless technique using the sun to print black and white onto silver gelatin paper. Tickets for Hannah’s Lumen workshop are available here!

Hannah Fletcher 2

MiAL Artist Hannah Fletcher will be hosting a Lumen printing workshop at 2pm on Sunday 26th August

Tickets for each workshop are £20 and all materials are included. As with all our events people of all abilities are welcome, but we recommend that anyone under the age of 10 is accompanied by an adult.

On top of all of this we will be introducing several of our new Artists from our 2018 Collection!

Selected by Alex J Wood and Laura Southall in June the 2018 Collection will be launching in September at our Annual exhibition, this year in collaboration with our partners TM Lighting who will be opening their new gallery space for the first time! (More details of this event are to follow! As always keep an eye on our social media and website or for an invitation to the Private View sign up to our mailing list!)

As the new Collection is yet to launch, this is your opportunity to have a sneak peek of what MiAL will have to offer over the next couple of years…. We are delighted to introduce Sebastian Chaumeton, Hermine Doublon and Zhinan Gu at Canopy Market!

Each Artist will be hosting their own stall, with Sebastian selling his graphic prints, Hermine beautiful ceramics and Zhinan’s quirky and alternative fashion accessories!

Sebastian will also be live painting a mural throughout the weekend- inspired by your thoughts and suggestions! Through large scale murals and paintings Seb accumulates
thoughts and feelings from a multitude of people as they suggest and write down things for him to “Doodle”, creating community led, site specific artworks!

Come down and say hello to Sebastian Chaumeton, so that your input can influence the direction of his mural throughout the weekend!
