About Made in Arts London

Supporting Emerging Art & Design from University of the Arts London.

Made in Arts London is a great initiative, which supports students and graduates at a crucial time in their career.”

Angus Montgomery, Editor, Design Week

Made in Arts London (MiAL) is a student and graduate led not-for-profit enterprise, which promotes and sells art and design by University of the Arts London students and recent graduates. We support our artists to develop the skills, experience and connections necessary to sustain their creative practice after university.

MiAL works alongside SUARTS, the Students’ Union of University of the Arts London, Europe’s largest arts education institution. UAL encompasses a huge range of creative courses over a total of six colleges: Camberwell College of Arts, Central Saint Martins, Chelsea College of Arts, London College of Communication, London College of Fashion, Wimbledon College of Arts.

Selling Art & Design – Online, Events, Exhibitions & Art Fairs

We support our current students and recent graduates to break into the art and design market, begin selling their work and build their collectors.

As a customer and collector you will find art and design on Made in Arts London which is exciting, unique and represents new practices emerging in the market. Through our website we offer a platform that brings together some of the most exciting art and design emerging from UAL, for collectors to access that otherwise is only accessible at short lived degree shows.

MiAL also exhibit work throughout the year at various events and exhibitions. We have exhibited at art fairs across London including Affordable Art Fair Hampstead, Multiplied Art Fair at Christie’s and The London Illustration Fair. We have also organised a number of independent exhibitions including ‘Process in Exile’, ‘Bigger, Brighter, Bolder’, ‘Fake Nature’ and an exhibition at The Lethaby Gallery.

Our students and graduates are among the most respected in the world. MiAL exhibitions offer an opportunity to not only to buy works from our emerging artists and designers but to meet and speak with them about their work too.

Curated Collections

The MiAL exhibition at AAF was well curated and gave a ‘breath of fresh air’ for visitors, helping them see what’s happening in art schools right now and giving them the opportunity to invest and support emerging talent. The artists involved were also great, high quality and interesting.”

Nicola O’Reilly, Partnerships and Programmes Manager, Affordable Art Fair

When you buy from MiAL, you are not only investing in and providing invaluable support for the art and design stars of the future, you are also making a good investment for yourself.

Everything we sell is designed and created exclusively by either our current students or recent graduates, and picked by a panel of industry experts and successful independent artists and designers who meet twice a year to select the next MiAL Collection. This panel changes with each new collection in order to ensure our collections are fresh and relevant and to continue to grow our knowledge and expertise.

This selection process ensures that each collection is thoughtfully curated to ensure a high level of quality every time.

The Made in Arts London Story

MiAL was conceived in 2011 by one of our then current students, Kate Rintoul, and Students’ Union Sabbatical Officer, Robyn Minogue. After securing a creative enterprise grant from the National Union of Students, SUARTS staff began work on the project and Made in Arts London was born in Spring 2012.

Alongside the MiAL team we have a group of enthusiastic and engaged Creative Ambassadors – current students from all over the University who want more experience in an emerging creative business – who help us with everything from promotion to spotting the next big thing.

Ultimately, Made in Arts London was set up to support our students and graduates and this is our number one priority. We want to offer our artists financial support in a time where fees are rising and cost of living is increasing, but also professional support in the form of free workshops, talks, networking activities, 1-2-1 advice and invaluable opportunities to promote their emerging practice.
